JOB TITLE:  MEETINGS AND EVENTS SPECIALIST

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Provides administrative support for the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, Regions, Sections, and Liaisons to the Board. Develops, implements, and evaluates the meetings and events for the Regions and Sections of the association. Creates and manages a comprehensive partnership development plan for all aspects of the association’s activities. The position reports directly and is evaluated annually by the MPRA Executive Director. This is a non-exempt part-time (non-regular) position.

ASSOCIATION DESCRIPTION:

The Missouri Park & Recreation Association serves as the voice for parks and recreation in Missouri on the local, state, and national levels. MPRA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit association whose members work to provide opportunities for quality leisure activities and is dedicated to promoting public support for parks and recreation and public awareness of the contribution of recreation to a balanced life. The association works to grow and improve the quality and accessibility of urban and rural parks, open spaces, facilities, and programs for all Missourians. It promotes research on parks, conservation, recreation, and leisure issues. Located in Jefferson City, Missouri, with 3000+ members across the state, MPRA’s mission is to advocate the quality of life through the effective use of parks and recreation opportunities, education, and resources.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of three years progressive experience in event management, meeting planning, parks and recreation, or a closely related field with responsibilities in developing and delivering meetings and events 
  • Considerable knowledge of the goals and objectives of parks and recreation agencies
  • Ability to plan, organize, and administer meetings and events for the association
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive administrative reports
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Association Management Software or similar
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the membership, Board of Directors, outside agencies, state and local non-profits, and the public
  • Ability to obtain a valid driver’s license

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list is not absolute or restrictive but indicates approximate duties and responsibilities that may be adjusted pursuant to operational needs.

  • Maximize opportunities to enhance current member services
  • Plan, produce, and facilitate in-person and virtual workshops and meetings
  • Coordinate the planning, budgeting, production, management, and evaluation of educational conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities for the association's Regions and Sections
  • Greet and implement day-of workshop activities
  • Enhance MPRA support to Regions and Sections, especially to their leadership
  • Aggressively pursue partnerships for the association and make recommendations to the supervisor and/or MPRA leadership
  • Coordinate all aspects of marketing (contracted or internal), including printed publications, electronic publications, and social media
  • Other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION:  

Starting hourly pay ranges from $21 - $23 per hour depending on qualifications. Part-Time Employee (non-regular)

Part-time employees may participate in the ASI Flex spending program (cafeteria plan) and the SIMPLE IRA program as defined in the Employee Manual. Prorated paid time off and holidays are available. 

This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (remote and in-office.) Some in-state travel (approximately 30%) via personal vehicle (reimbursable) will be required. Most travel does not require overnight stays and will be concentrated in the fall and spring. Assistance at the MPRA Annual Conference will require overnight travel for one week each winter.
