JOB OVERVIEW: The purpose of this position is to assist the Director in managing all aspects of the Parks and Recreation Department including supervising subordinate staff.  The position also involves specific functional responsibility for all planning activities for the Department.  The work is performed under the direction of the Director-Parks and Recreation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Director in managing all aspects of the Parks and Recreation Department including supervising subordinate staff.   
  • Represents Director-Parks and Recreation at meetings and directs daily activities of the Department of Parks and Recreation in the Director's absence. Provides primary supervision over assigned functional areas of the Parks and Recreation Department.  
  • Works with the Director, the Park Advisory Board, and other County officials as well as other local, state and federal representatives to develop and update plans, and to develop partnerships and alliances, and to develop sources of funding.   
  • Has primary functional responsibility for park planning, design and construction activities for the Department. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other local governmental entities to assure that the development of park and recreational resources in the community is coordinated to achieve the best possible results.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, maintenance and enforcement of policies, procedures, work methods and directives.   
  • Assists in the development and administration of Department budget.    
  • Participates in the development of bids and requests for proposals. Evaluates proposals and makes recommendations. Controls, tracks and monitors projects, capital improvement budgets, status reports, billings, etc.   
  • Meets with citizens, business groups, civic clubs, etc. to make presentations on various projects and to promote community involvement.   
  • Administers capital improvement, construction and park development projects.
  • Provides information to staff and the public regarding the policies and procedures of the Parks and Recreation Department.  
  • Researches park and recreation issues. 
  • Responds to correspondence for requested action or information.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, or related field. A Master's Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Job Experience
    • 5-10 years of experience.
    • Minimum of five (5) years directly related work experience including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or higher level staff capacity. Prior experience in park and recreational planning is essential.
  • Certifications
    • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional.
    • A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
    • Thorough knowledge of public park and recreation administration, including principles of organization, accounting and budget preparation a must.


MINIMUM SALARY- $83,086
