CLASSIFICATION  FULL TIME GRADE 5 - HOURLY - OVERTIME ELIGIBLE
LOCATION      13555 W. WATSON RD. + ADJACENT DEPT. FACILITIES

JOB SUMMARY
Perform maintenance work and beautification of the park system in the City of Sunset Hills for the enjoyment and use of the public. This position will focus mainly on the athletic fields, driving range, and other outdoor recreation facilities.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform maintenance and repair work for park grounds, recreational facilities and buildings.

• Field Grooming and Setup: Use of power equipment to rake and refill low areas, lining fields to ensure optimal playing conditions.

• Grounds Care: Grass mowing and trimming; Seeding and fertilizing as scheduled; Golf greens care; Minor tree trimming or removal.

• Equipment Setup: Assisting in the setup of field equipment, such as bases, pitching machines and fencing, ensuring fields and equipment are game-ready.

• Communicating with recreation staff and other park/city staff for event help and setups.

• Work with other city staff for intrusive maintenance/repairs.

• Safety Checks: Conducting safety checks of the fields, surrounding areas, and work equipment. Reporting any hazards (e.g., broken fencing, damaged equipment).

• Perform minor plumbing, electrical, and construction work.

• Assist in preparing fields, driving range, and park grounds for city recreational programs and activities.

• Keep work and storage areas clean and organized.

• Delegate tasks to other part-time employees and provide training.

• Assist city staff snowplowing city streets/municipal complexes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skills and abilities of those commonly associated with this position.

• Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices used in the maintenance, repair, construction, and improvement of city infrastructure, recreational facilities, and buildings.

• Previous experience in turf maintenance, landscape management preferred.

• Basic knowledge of DNR, MSD and park standards, methods, and related regulatory guidelines including Missouri Department of Labor Safety standards.

• Ability to safely and efficiently operate a wide variety of tools and equipment under hazardous and emergency situations.

• Demonstrate problem solving skills to quickly and effectively resolve issues.

• Ability to build positive working relationships.

• Ability to act and make decisions independently and provide support for decisions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Must have one year or more of related work experience.

• Within six months of employment, candidate must obtain and maintain a valid, current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

• Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification within one year of employment

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

• Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and wet and humid (non-weather) conditions.

• Occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and in hazardous traffic conditions.

• Occasionally exposed to vibrations and oil from work equipment.

• May work near or around fumes or airborne particles.

• May be exposed to loud noise levels.

• Works mainly weekdays, though some evenings, and weekends are required.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, talk and hear; occasionally required to use repetitive motion and reach with hands/arms.

• Must have clarity of vision and three-dimensional vision.

• Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate equipment and tools.

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 lbs.

• Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

STARTING SALARY RANGE
$42,719 – $48,700 plus benefits including paid time off, health, dental, vision and life Insurance, and retirement benefits.
