COMPENSATION


Parks Maintenance Supervisor starting salary is: $69,457.  Paid on hourly basis bi-weekly.

Position Summary

Assists Superintendent in supervising the maintenance operation activities associated with parks and public grounds. Works independently under the immediate supervision of the Superintendent and other personnel as assigned. Exercises direct supervision over Parks Maintenance Workers, seasonal, and temporary personnel. Also works to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with other City and non-City entities, the general public and community user groups. Provides direct support for facility supervision/operations, special events and programs as required. 

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, directing and supervision of activities associated with parks and public grounds maintenance. This shall include the daily maintenance, repair and improvement of parks and general public grounds (mowing, trimming, pruning, landscaping, seeding, fertilizing, repairs and inspections etc.).
  • Assists, instructs, schedules, and coordinates Park Division personnel in work associated with grounds and facility maintenance, and snow operations.
  • Orders materials, tools and equipment. Maintain inventory of assigned vehicles and equipment assigned to the Parks Division and ensures that personnel use and maintain vehicles and equipment properly. Instructs other workers in the care, use and operation of Park Division equipment.
  • Assists and directs others in City and Departmental policies and procedures. Must have a thorough and complete knowledge of policies and procedures related to purchasing and departmental operations.
  • Coordinates, schedules, plans, supervises, and performs facility and grounds maintenance of public parks, spaces, and facilities.
  • Under direct supervision of the Superintendent of Parks, performs duties related to hiring, evaluating, scheduling, and training of full-time and seasonal park maintenance workers.
  • Works and coordinates with the Facilities Supervisor in maintenance of recreation facilities.
  • Operates snowplow-equipped truck to spread salt and participates in other snow removal activities as assigned. Assists other divisions during emergencies and is on-call to respond.
  • Assists Superintendent in preparing and administering the budget.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned. 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS


Extensive knowledge of methods, principles, and practices related to parks, public grounds and facility maintenance, and operations; Must have knowledge of principles and practices of landscaping; proper application and use of herbicides, pest control chemicals, and fertilizers; turf maintenance practices; and conducts regular safety inspections of grounds, equipment and vehicles. Skill in the care and use of materials, tools and equipment used in park maintenance and repair. Knowledge of work hazards and safety precautions. Knowledge of City Policies, procedures, and practices relating to purchasing, personnel, and departmental operations. Ability to understand blueprints and drawings.

Requires the ability to supervise a large group of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers. Ability to operate light to medium equipment. Ability to do heavy manual work and to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions and to do work that is generally out of doors. Ability to keep records and prepare reports. Ability to work with Windows based work processing and spreadsheet applications that meet the city’s current standard.

Requires ability to supervise staff, apply administrative principles and practices, including goal setting and program development and implementation. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with other City and non-City entities, the general public and community user groups. Skills in organizing work, setting priorities, and meeting critical deadlines.
