General Purpose of Position

Provides students with an opportunity to gain an understanding of the parks and recreation field through various positions within the organization. 


Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions


Assist with planning and implementing recreational programming

•Assists in ordering necessary supplies and equipment 

•Assists in overseeing budgets for programs and facilities 

•Assists in overseeing the registration process

•Assists in developing and overseeing programs and events

•Assists in providing reports 

•Assists in completing program and event evaluations and surveys

•Assists in coordinating camps, programs, and lessons 


Assists in the operations of park rental facilities 

•Assists in updating policy manuals and other departmental documents 

•Assists in the oversight of seasonal staff and daily operations 

•Develop, edit, and produce reports 

•Assists in coordinating pool use 

•Assist Recreation Coordinator in serving as staff liaison to swim team 

•Assists with maintaining inventory 

•Assists in the daily operations of facilities 


Provides administrative support to departmental staff 

•Prepares, edits, and sends correspondence on various matters 

•Assists in maintaining data for and prepares reports and evaluations 

•Assists in daily financial operations 

•Assists the Director with special projects and projects


Performs other duties related to departmental activities

•Assists with departmental accounts payable

•Attends meetings when necessary 

•Assists with preparing marketing brochures, flyers, and social media posts for recreation programs

•Assists with daily office operations, including the front desk 

•Accepts registrations and payment for activities 

•Answers phones, transferring calls to appropriate personnel or provides information as needed

•Directs patrons to appropriate department or person 

•Provides excellent customer service • May be required to work an occasional evening or weekend


Marginal Duties and Responsibilities 

•Performs other duties as directed


Working Conditions

Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. An employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, run, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting, moving, pushing or pulling, raking or shoveling up to 25 pounds does generally occur. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Required Education and Experience 

High School degree or equivalent required with substantial coursework from an accredited college or university towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Natural Resource Management or related field. Must be 18 years of age or older. The person in this position must be able to read, write, and speak in English. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office programs.


Licenses and Certifications

•Must possess a valid State of Missouri Driver’s License and maintain a safe driving record

•CPR and AED certifications are desired


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge

•Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes identifying customer needs, meeting standards for service, and customer satisfaction.

•Knowledge of and/or experience working with recreation programs and events


Skills and Abilities

•Effective communication skills orally and in writing 

•Ability to write routine reports and correspondence 

•Ability to read and interpret documents • Ability to calculate figures and amounts 

•Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form 

•Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations 

•Ability to prioritize daily workflow 

•Ability to meet deadlines 

•Ability to maintain accurate records 

•Ability to follow departmental and City policies and procedures 

•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of people 

•Ability to work independently but seek advice when needed 

•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
