Job Title: Southwest Swim Club Pool Manager

Location: Columbia, MO

Job Summary:

The Pool Manager oversees the daily operations, maintenance, and staff of the pool. This role ensures the safety, cleanliness, and enjoyment of the facility for all patrons while managing programs, schedules, and resources efficiently. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong organizational skills, customer service expertise, and a commitment to fostering a welcoming environment. This is a full-time, ~40 hour a week position.


Key Responsibilities:

Operations and Facility Management:

Supervise daily operations of the pool, ensuring compliance with all regulations.

Collaborate with the Board Member in charge of Facilities to ensure proper operations and maintenance of the pool and grounds are attended to.

Oversee the maintenance of the pool, including water quality testing, chemical balancing, and equipment inspections.

Coordinate and monitor the cleanliness of the pool, locker rooms, and surrounding areas.

Maintain accurate records related to water chemistry, maintenance schedules, and incident reports.

Staff Management:

Manage a staff of assistant managers and ~30 lifeguards.

Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise assistant managers, lifeguards, and swim instructors.

Ensure all staff maintain required certifications and are knowledgeable about safety procedures.

Conduct monthly in-service training sessions to address safety, customer service, and operational protocols.

Evaluate staff performance at mid and end of season, and provide constructive feedback

Oversee and manage employee behavior, ensuring adherence to employee  policies, promoting a positive work environment, and addressing any behavioral concerns in a timely and constructive manner. 

Provide guidance, set clear expectations, and implement corrective actions when necessary to maintain a productive and respectful environment

Customer Service and Community Engagement:

Serve as the primary point of contact for patrons, addressing questions, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.

Promote pool programs, events, and activities to encourage community participation.

Handle conflicts or emergencies calmly and effectively, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all patrons.

Respond to member and board emails and outreach in a timely and professional manner.

Financial and Administrative Duties:

Work with the accounting manager on staff pay, pay stubs, etc.

Schedule staff in an effective manner to ensure pool coverage while managing personnel budget.

Collect and record payments for swim lessons, special events and facility rentals.

Manage calendar of special events, facility rentals, swim lessons and swim meets.

Create sign up lists for swim lessons.

Maintain clear, consistent communication with Pool Board of Directors, including the President, Vice President, Facilities, Social and Personnel directors

Provide operations updates to the Board of Directors while attending monthly in-person board meetings. Provide email or written updates on a consistent basis between board meetings.




Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent, education background in Recreation Management or a related field preferred

Previous experience managing a pool or recreational facility.

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.

Certifications:

Current Lifeguard Certification (required).

CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (required).

Food Manager’s License (by time of pool opening, will be reimbursed or compensated if you need to gain this license)

Skills:

Knowledge of pool operations, maintenance, and safety procedures.

Strong organizational, time management and budgeting abilities.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

Ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work in outdoor conditions, including varying weather.

Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Flexible schedule, including availability on weekends, holidays, and evenings.


Employment Details:

Position Type: Seasonal (Mid-March to Mid-September)

Compensation: Hourly before and after pool season. Salaried during pool season. Hiring Range: $19-22/hr
