Position Title: RECREATION SPECIALIST -Aquatics
Department: PARKS, RECREATION, AND ARTS
Immediate Supervisor: RECREATION MANAGER
Full-time non-exempt position paying a minimum annual salary of $51,053 and is paid at an hourly rate of $24.54.
Classification: FULL-TIME NON – EXEMPT
Position Summary
The Recreation Specialist reports to the Recreation Manager. Primary responsibility will be to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center, training of seasonal lifeguard staff, and develop, market and implement aquatic programs. Recreation Specialist will also assist with recreation programs and special events for all ages.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in the supervision and operations of the aquatic center;
Training of lifeguard staff and swim instructors;
Assist in interviewing of seasonal workers;
Assist in front desk and concessions operations at the aquatic center;
Assist in the development of aquatic programming,
Assist in the development of recreation programming and special events year-round;
Set up and tear down of equipment and materials for community events;
Assist with marketing and social media;
Assists in the recommendation of fees and policies of the aquatic center;
Maintains inventory records and prepares reports;
Assists in the documentation of records, inspections, observations and actions taken with respect to facility operations;
Assist with supervision and evaluation of programs;
Responding to patron needs and rule compliance, resolving discrepancies while maintaining great customer service;
Assists other staff in analyzing pricing/expense strategies for facility and program services;
Assists other divisions and departments during emergencies;
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
Knowledge of principles and practices associated with recreation and special event programming, marketing, lifeguard training, and recreation facilities, working knowledge of personnel management, front desk and concession operations, and special event planning.
Skills
Must be able to adeptly handle multiple priorities, problems, and demanding situations; possess strong written and oral communication skills; obtain lifeguard certification; be able to look toward the future, while dealing with the demands of the present; possess strong planning and organizational skills; be knowledgeable of current trends, resources; be creative and proactive, yet politically sensitive; possess a strong customer service orientation; and be a team player.
Abilities
Ability to work indoors and outdoors with long and varied hours such as days, nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and sit at a desk up to fifty percent of the day in a busy, close office environment where noise and interruptions prevail. May be required to move tables, chairs, cabinets, supplies, etc. to maximum of 25 pounds. Must be able to work with potentially dangerous chemicals and equipment. Requires alertness, precision, memory, concentration, judgement, reasoning, patience, problem solving, and imagination. Must be quality minded and safety conscious, people and service oriented, a team player and self-starter.
Minimum Education, Certification and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Facility Management, Sports Management, or a closely related field. Must obtain Lifeguard Training Certification. Must have a valid driver’s license, and a safe driving record. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional, CPR and AED Certifications are desired.
