JOB SUMMARY
Position is responsible for planning, coordination, implementation and supervision of employees, sport, recreational, camp, adult/senior, fitness, and aquatic programs and events. Work involves supervisory duties for all parks and recreation facilities including the Recreation Center and Tiger Shark Waterpark.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
• Receives general direction from the Director of Parks & Recreation.
• Exercises direct supervision over assigned part-time and seasonal staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, plan, and conduct a variety of recreational programs, including but not limited to sports leagues, special events, day camps, youth and adult programs, and specialty classes.
• Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for operating recreation facilities; implement policies and procedures.
• Evaluate operations and activities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
• Assist in preparing marketing materials to promote recreation programs.
• Hire, train, supervise, and schedule seasonal recreation staff.
• Respond to inquiries and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
• Maintain regular attendance and adhere to the prescribed work schedule.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, participants, and the public.
• Follow appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.
• Work safely and cooperatively with others.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Parks & Recreation Director.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepare materials and information for various meetings, including commission, committee, staff, and board meetings.
• Maintain communication with Parks Maintenance staff regarding recreation scheduling and facility needs.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Recreation & Leisure or a related field required.
• Minimum of three (3) year experience in parks and recreation required.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required within three months of hire.
• Certified Pool Operator preferred; ability to obtain within six (6) months of date of hire.
• The ability to perform moderate physical labor as necessary and able to lift up to fifty pounds.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to work effectively with the public.
• Must be organized, flexible, energetic, and team-oriented.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn RecDesk and other software systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors throughout the St. James Parks system. The noise level can vary from moderate to loud, depending on the activity or location.
