AQUATICS COORDINATOR
Requires successful post-offer completion of a background investigation, physical exam, and drug test (including marijuana/THC) as a condition of employment with the City of Harrisonville.
General Definition of Work
To manage, assign, review, schedule and participate in the work of staff responsible for daily aquatic operations for the City of Harrisonville Parks and Recreation aquatics facilities at the Indoor Community Center (year-round), and the Outdoor Aquatic Center (seasonal) and other aquatic operations and water programs as assigned. Manage and participate with staff directly responsible for lifeguarding, facility supervision, water quality and facility cleanliness; and perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Receive general supervision from the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation.
Essential Functions
- Exercises direct supervision over 1 full-time Aquatic division staff, and direct supervision over 20 – 30 part-time/seasonal lifeguard staff.
- Plan, prioritize, supervise, and coordinate the work of staff responsible for the daily operations of assigned aquatic facilities.
- Select, train, motivate and evaluate assigned facility staff; provide or coordinate staff training to include Customer Service, CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding, Pool Operation and BBP, evaluate employee performance.
- Recommend and establish a comprehensive manual of aquatic procedures: recommend and implement goals and objectives: establish schedules and methods for aquatic operations; implement policies and procedures for aquatic operations. Enforce existing City policies.
- Maintain written and electronic accounting records for chemical inventories, and chemical readings.
- Conducts daily walkthrough inspections of both indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities to ensure operational safety and maintenance standards are met; visually inspects pools, equipment, pumps, and surrounding areas for potential hazards, leaks, cracks, or other issues, and reports concerns for prompt resolution.
- Maintain equipment and supplies needed for aquatic facility operations.
- Ability to answer questions and provide written and verbal information to the public concerning Aquatic activities, policies, and procedures; investigate complaints and take corrective action.
- Ensure safe work practices by aquatic personnel; maintain, evaluate, report and file incident / accident reports.
- Thorough understanding of local, federal, and state guidelines that relate to pool operations and chemistry.
- Ensure all operations are using proper cash-handling procedures and ensure a proper daily balance of revenue collected.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports for the Director of Parks & Recreation.
- Oversee and monitors the budget for all aquatics program areas.
Minimum Qualifications
- One to three years of direct aquatics programming and supervision experience.
- Instructor certification in American Red Cross lifeguard instructor, CPR/AED Instructor and WSI instruction is required. Can obtain within 3 months of hire.
- Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO).
Pay ranges from $21.05 per hour up to $29.47 per hour, plus a generous benefit package.
