However, one of the main attractions for our 2.5 million annual visitors is the 289 acres of green open spaces and woodlands that serve as a natural oasis in the middle of a densely populated, diverse urban area. The living landscape of Tower Grove Park includes 7,500 trees, hundreds of varieties of woody shrubs, stunning horticulture, and many acres of grassy turf in which Park visitors can relax, socialize, exercise, study, and enjoy nature.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and manage work assignments of three full-time as well as seasonal employees
Maintain accurate records pertaining to employees and programs
Train staff in safe work practices
Operate all park equipment safely and efficiently
Collaborate with other departmental supervisors on joint projects
Coordinate with staff and community for volunteer activities
Attend meetings and conferences as needed
Care for and maintain all non woody plants in the park
Direct and operate the greenhouse and nursery areas
Manage horticulture related Park programs
Estimate and budget materials, equipment, and time needed for specific projects
Requisition and propagate flowers and shrubs
Direct the preparation and maintenance of specialized horticultural displays
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate for this position has a minimum of an associate’s degree in Horticulture, or a related field, with at least three years in a supervisory position. The candidate must possess a valid Pesticide Applicators License or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire. Successful applicants will have thorough knowledge of the requirements for propagation, planting, cultivation, pruning, and maintenance of plants, shrubs, and flowers including proper soil mixtures and fertilization.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Candidates should have knowledge of the common and botanical names and characteristics of a wide variety of plants. Candidates should have knowledge of the principles of landscape planting and design, maintenance of landscaped areas, including equipment and watering systems and their care and use, and be able to perform said maintenance for extended periods of time in extreme temperatures. This position requires the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously as well as maintaining professional relationships with employees, the public, and vendors.
Regular working hours are Mon-Fri 6:30A-3P with the ability to come in evenings and weekends, as needed.
Salary commensurate with experience.
