General Purpose

The full-time Maintenance Worker will be responsible for maintenance and repairs of all parks, trails, athletic fields, grounds and facilities within the Eureka park system.  Must have the ability to perform physically demanding work as well as operate some machinery and equipment. Periodically supervises part-time and seasonal staff.


Supervision Received

Works under the general supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation and other City supervisory staff, as directed.


Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations

Responsible for the maintenance and improvement of all recreation facilities, including but not limited to parks, athletic fields, The Timbers Recreation Center, Eureka Community Center and all equipment, structures and facilities within said facilities. Includes, but is not limited to; restroom maintenance, cleaning, manual labor such as shoveling and raking, landscape maintenance, construction, fencing repair and other general maintenance functions.


Performs general labor, janitorial and landscaping tasks.


Schedules and ensures completion of all prescribed equipment maintenance. Conducts repairs on various engine driven and electrical equipment as required. 


Organizes and maintains Hazardous Materials storage sites.


Assist with the setup and tear down of special events, recreational programs and rentals.


Completes janitorial tasks at The Timbers Recreation Center and Eureka Community Center.  Operates equipment such as power washers, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, generators, lifts and hand tools.


Landscape maintenance for all Parks and Recreation facilities.


Works in conjunction with other City Departments.


Operates department vehicles and other equipment, such as lawn mowers, UTVs, lifts, etc.


Other related duties as assigned.


Desired Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.


High School diploma or equivalent.


Valid Missouri Driver’s License.


Ability to work weekends, nights and some holidays.  Ability to be on call.


Two (2) years related work experience.


Technical knowledge and skills related to associated equipment maintenance including using hand tools, conducting diagnostics and repair, obtaining parts and materials, maintenance scheduling and quality assurance (QA) documentation.


Experience in supervising staff.


Experience delivering informal training related to maintenance and operational procedures.


Familiar with Hazardous Materials controls and storage requirements.


Ability to understand, carry out and give oral and written instructions and follow posted schedules.


Ability to work with minimal daily supervision and to learn and follow City policies.


Ability to perform child and adult CPR and first aid.


Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in general maintenance of parks.

 

Skill based techniques of construction repairs and maintenance.

 

Ability to operate department vehicles and other equipment.

 

Ability to perform heavy manual work requiring good physical condition.

 

Skill based techniques of construction repairs and maintenance including calculated measurements, setting proper grades, materials usage, work site notices and quality requirements.


Perform construction activities and job responsibilities during emergency and non-emergency conditions.

While performing the duties of this position classification, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.   The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.


The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position classification include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position classification, the employee works both inside and outside. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.


The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and can be moderately loud when in the field.
