JOB TITLE RECREATION ASSISTANT - AQUATICS
SUPERVISOR: RECREATION SUPERVISOR


JOB SUMMARY

The Recreation Assistants primary responsibility will be to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Sunset Hills Aquatic Facility with training of seasonal lifeguard staff and assisting with aquatic programs. The Recreation Assistant will also assist with recreation programs and special events for all ages throughout the year. 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assist Aquatics Supervisor with seasonal pool opening and closing procedures

• Assist Aquatics Supervisor with lifeguard certification courses

• Oversee and operate events including swim + dive team, triathlon, aquatic events, purchase pool concession goods, and assist the department as needed with events and programs throughout the year.

• Greeting customers and members in a friendly manner

• Answering customer questions in person and on the phone

• Performing general clerical duties and registering customers for classes, programs and events

• Collecting fees for all transactions and may be required to balance daily cash drawer

• Attending meetings as requested

• Assisting staff in conducting special events, programs and community activities as requested

• Run assigned programs

• Enforcing policies and rules of the City of Sunset Hills

• Performing other duties as requested


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Needs a thorough understanding of principles and philosophy of municipal parks and recreation programming. Ability to follow and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with groups, the general public and employees. Knowledge of management practices and the ability to lead and evaluate staff effectively. Knowledge of budgeting, cost/benefit analysis, scheduling and program formulation. Ability to make moderately complex decisions; ability to work in a fast-paced environment, occasionally, under extremely stressful conditions; ability to prioritize and perform effectively with constant interruptions and limited privacy while managing multiple tasks; ability to maintain administrative, fiscal and general records; ability to maintain cordial, effective relationships with other employees and the public; ability to deal with citizens and other individuals courteously and tactfully; ability to elicit information effectively and to convey concise, accurate explanations of programs, policies, procedure and requirements; knowledge of recreation program planning and development, basic budgeting principles and accounting/general ledger; thorough knowledge of grammar, spelling, basic math and vocabulary; thorough knowledge of secretarial practices and procedures; skilled in use of a computer and other office equipment; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Active.

Regularly required to: stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor Degree in Parks & Recreation and/or another related field

• Some work-related experience preferred but not mandatory

• CPO, Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and LGI certifications or ability to obtain within the first 6  months of employment


STARTING SALARY:

$45,000 plus benefits including health, dental, vision and life Insurance, and retirement benefits.
