JOB TITLE RECREATION ASSISTANT - ATHLETICS
SUPERVISOR: SUPERINTENDENT OF FACILITIES
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for General responsibilities include the following but not limited to: greeting customers; answering phones; registering customers for programs; clerical functions; directing inquiries for facility use and program information; running assigned programs; facilitate athletic complex, Driving Range, Sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, processing ID cards; care and maintenance of supplies; general knowledge of our fitness equipment; offering program support as needed, room/gym set-up, breaking down and light maintenance; insuring safety and adherence to policy of patrons. Responsible for supervising Community Center and recreation staff in the absence of the Recreation Manager and Recreation Supervisor. Work includes weeknights, weekends, holidays and irregular hours.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•Supervise staff to facilitate Athletic Complex, Driving Range and Athletic Fields
• Greeting customers and members in a friendly manner
• Answering customer questions in person and on the phone
• Performing general clerical duties
• Registering customers for classes, programs and events
• Collecting fees for all transactions
• May be required to balance daily cash drawer
• Attending meetings as requested
• Assisting staff in conducting special events, programs and community activities as requested
• Run assigned programs
• Assisting with custodial/set-up needs as requested
• Checking in and out rental equipment such as basketballs, weight belts, etc.
• Enforcing policies and rules of the City of Sunset Hills
• Performing other duties as requested
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Needs a thorough understanding of principles and philosophy of municipal parks and recreation of Athletic field maintenance and scheduling, youth sports philosophy; computer programs such as Microsoft Office and Outlook and/or ability and willingness to learn; departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to: communicate effectively with all co-workers and customers; work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed; demonstrate professional, energetic, enthusiastic and motivational public relation skills; utilize excellent time management and organizational skills; apply basic math skills to compute rates and percentages; operate a cash drawer; techniques and tasks.
Ability to follow and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with groups, the general public and employees. Knowledge of management practices and the ability to lead and evaluate staff effectively. Knowledge of budgeting, cost/benefit analysis, scheduling and program formulation. Ability to make moderately complex decisions; ability to work in a fast-paced environment, occasionally, under extremely stressful conditions; ability to prioritize and perform effectively with constant interruptions and limited privacy while managing multiple tasks; ability to maintain administrative, fiscal and general records; ability to maintain cordial, effective relationships with other employees and the public; ability to deal with citizens and other individuals courteously and tactfully; ability to elicit information effectively and to convey concise, accurate explanations of programs, policies, procedure and requirements; knowledge of recreation program planning and development, basic budgeting principles and accounting/general ledger; thorough knowledge of grammar, spelling, basic math and vocabulary; thorough knowledge of secretarial practices and procedures; skilled in use of a computer and other office equipment; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Active.
Regularly required to: stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor Degree in Parks & Recreation and/or another related field
• Some work-related experience preferred but not mandatory
• Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within the first three months of employment
STARTING SALARY:
$45,000 plus benefits including health, dental, vision and life Insurance, and retirement benefits.
