As a Full-Time Recreation Specialist at the City of O'Fallon, you will play a crucial role in managing Renaud Center memberships while ensuring seamless communication within the Parks and Recreation Board. Your responsibilities will include recording meeting minutes, preparing agendas, and composing essential correspondence and reports, including the Department's monthly and yearly updates. You'll maintain and establish department files and databases while expertly managing the utilization of RecTrac throughout the department. Additionally, you will issue special event permits for park usage and coordinate all employee-related activities, such as personnel files, evaluations, payroll, and disciplinary actions. Your role will also involve assisting with day-to-day operations at the front desk of the Renaud Center, City Hall, and Pool Cashiers, making this a dynamic position that fosters community engagement and operational excellence.

To excel as a Full-Time Recreation Specialist with the City of O'Fallon, a diverse skill set is essential. A strong foundation in recreation program development and implementation is crucial, along with knowledge of supervisory principles and practices to effectively lead personnel. Familiarity with the management of recreation facilities and equipment, as well as city policies and procedures, including purchasing and budgeting, will enhance your efficiency in this role. Proficiency in using office equipment like computers, calculators, copiers, and fax machines is required, alongside stellar interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with team members and community members. A high school diploma or GED is necessary, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred, complemented by relevant experience of one to three years.

Additionally, possessing or the ability to obtain a valid Missouri driver's license and certification in CPR is vital for success in this dynamic position.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are: 

  • Knowledge of recreation program development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the management of recreation facilities and equipment.
  • Knowledge of city policies and procedures
  • including purchasing and budgeting procedures.
  • Skill in the supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Knowledge of city payroll process
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position
  • usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to three years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain certification in CPR.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation professional preferred.
  • Recreation software experience preferred
