Recreation Superintendent The City of Lenexa is looking for an experienced Recreation Superintendent to oversee the daily operations, staff, and facilities of the Recreation division. The ideal candidate is creative, passionate about working with the public, and has exceptional leadership qualities. This position will operate out of our Lenexa Rec Center facility. Position Summary Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities Supports professional development, resolves work-related issues and implements strategies to motivate employees toward achieving division goals, while assessing outcomes. Responds during off hours (evenings & weekends) to issues and emergencies related to the operation of assigned responsibilities and any other department-related activity, as needed. Develops and enforces departmental policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with City policies and coordinating their execution. Establishes division operating schedules and ensures proper procedures and policies are implemented to foster safe, consistent and successful services. Collaborates with other department divisions to manage, operate and ensure proper procedures and policies are implemented for care, safety and maintenance for community facilities including Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center, Flat Rock Creek Pool, Ad Astra Pool, Rec Center Aquatics Natatorium, Lenexa Old Town Activity Center, Lenexa Cemetery and Legler Barn Museum and Depot. Oversees and assists with the design and implementation of recreation programs suited to the needs of participants and the community. Collaborates with division staff to ensure success of program areas that include early childhood, school age youth, adults, 50+, camps, sport and fitness, aquatics, enrichment, nature, history, adult trips, special events and festivals. Cultivates sponsorships through local community partners for a variety of special events, festivals, art events, Farmers Market and Public Market opportunities. Manages sponsorship package options, contracts and reconciles payments. Generates and monitors program and event cost-recovery goals, studies and evaluates division activities including patron participation and attendance. Prepares, evaluates, provides recommendations on the division's annual budget, which is reviewed by the Assistant Director and Director, and for managing the implementation of the approved budget. Coordinates all marketing, social media, signage and communication needs for the Recreation division team by working closely with the Communications Department. Leads the collection and review process for the department on content for the City resident magazine. Recreation programs, events, festivals and division staff are located in several locations throughout the city. Driving City provided vehicle, or personal vehicle will be required to perform essential functions of the position.
